DISTRIBUTECH 2025: Powering the Movement to Intelligent Grid Management
At DISTRIBUTECH 2025, Itron joined 18,000+ industry professionals to explore the innovations shaping the future of energy. Across 10+ speaking engagements and countless conversations, one key message stood out: grid edge intelligence is essential for building a smarter, more resilient and agile grid. Here’s a look back at our time at the show.
Big Data, Greater Impact: Insights from Itron’s Keynote
DISTRIBUTECH 2025 highlighted the accelerating pace of change within the energy sector, showcasing both the urgent challenges and new opportunities utilities face. From rising adoption of electric vehicles and shifting consumer expectations to the growing need for extreme weather resilience, the demand for smarter, agile infrastructure is stronger than ever. In the Tuesday morning keynote, Itron president and CEO, Tom Deitrich, emphasized the critical role of grid edge intelligence and the power of data-driven decision-making in addressing these challenges. As the grid evolves, real-time control and the ability to turn data into actionable insights are vital to building a more resilient, reliable grid that can meet rising demand, ensure service continuity and drive more sustainable energy and water management.
Inside the Itron Booth: Innovation in Action
The energy at our booth was nonstop. From hands-on demos of Itron and technology partner solutions to conversations about the future of distributed energy management, our booth was buzzing with utility and energy industry leaders eager to explore the latest innovations in grid modernization. Attendees connected with Itron experts, saw our solutions in action and discussed how to navigate the industry’s most pressing challenges with greater visibility, control and intelligence at the grid edge.
Driving the Conversation: Itron Experts Take the Stage
Across 10+ sessions, Itron leaders and customers joined industry experts to share insights on key topics, including consumer engagement, electric vehicle charging, intelligent connectivity, load forecasting and more. Discussions focused on the shift from passive monitoring to proactive, automated grid operations and how utilities can accelerate DER integration while ensuring stability and reliability. The unifying theme across these discussions? Actionable intelligence at the grid edge is critical. Pictured below is Zack Pollack, Xcel Energy; Angus McPherson, Schneider Electric; Nick Tumilowicz, Itron and Jennifer Gallegos, Itron, who took the stage to discuss our collaboration to deploy a virtual power plant (VPP) in Colorado, which enables Xcel Energy to manage the growing number of distributed energy resources (DERs) leveraging Itron’s Grid Edge DERMS solution.
Key Announcements Driving Grid Innovation
DISTRIBUTECH was also a platform for showcasing our recent announcements, including:
- Itron IntelliFLEX™: Our newest grid edge DERMS solution facilitates real-time visibility, control and optimization of behind the meter DERs. IntelliFLEX uniquely enables utilities to integrate more DERs, such as electric vehicles and solar, while unlocking up to 20% more capacity in the distribution grid.
- New Collaborations: Itron’s latest partnership announcements with industry leaders, including NVIDIA, Microsoft, Schneider Electric, Tesla and Xcel Energy, are expanding our ability to support utilities with enhanced grid visibility, real-time data and automated operations. These collaborations reinforce our commitment to delivering solutions that empower utilities to stay ahead of evolving grid challenges.
