Itron and El Maasara Engineering Company Join Forces to Reduce Water Losses in Egypt
PARIS, France and CAIRO, Egypt— April 18, 2016 — Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI) and El Maasara Engineering Company announced today the signing of a strategic memorandum of collaboration in which the two companies have expressed their intention to jointly develop water meters in Egypt to help reduce water losses.
The two companies intend to collaborate to better respond to Egyptian utilities’ needs and to jointly manufacture different types of Itron water meters. The memorandum, signed in Cairo during the visit of French President Francois Hollande to Egypt, also outlines joint projects to significantly reduce water losses.
“Efficiently and resourcefully managing water resources and effectively reducing water losses is vital for Egypt. The cooperation initiated with El Maasara through the signing of this memorandum can expand Itron’s presence and significantly contribute to our industrial footprint in this key Middle Eastern country,” said Mathias Martin, Itron vice president of non-revenue water solutions.
“Our goal is to demonstrate that the level of water losses in Egypt can be significantly reduced, thus contributing to better use of water resources and also improved economic conditions of water utilities. We are convinced of the great potential of the cooperation that began today with Itron,” said Abdel Moniem Hendawi, chairman of El Maasara Engineering Industries.
